Back in 2022, Bruce\u2019s family went public with the news that he was diagnosed with dementia and would be stepping away from his acting career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<script>\n  atOptions = {\n    'key' : '9e49f4ce267f7bab92bbdb38b733742b',\n    'format' : 'iframe',\n    'height' : 90,\n    'width' : 728,\n    'params' : {}\n  };\n<\/script>\n<script src=\"https:\/\/actingprofessionshiny.com\/9e49f4ce267f7bab92bbdb38b733742b\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f73d77e6e82739c1aaba411615ca84b4\">Three years later, Emma\u2019s life has changed a lot, and now she\u2019s sharing her struggles as well as some helpful advice for anyone else in her situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3b4282311d659d0ae3d46e725903aaf8\">On her blog, she wrote a post called \u201cThe Holidays Look Different Now.\u201d She starts the post by sharing, \u201cTraditions that once felt somewhat effortless require planning-&nbsp;<em>lots<\/em>&nbsp;of planning. Moments that once brought uncomplicated joy may arrive tangled in a web of grief. I know this because I\u2019m living it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/updatednewspost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/remix-2237726-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2237755\" style=\"width:528px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-da3067bf8095d0d76b7d862e6602f354\">Yet, that doesn\u2019t mean the holidays are all full of sorrow. She also shared, \u201cYet despite that, there can still be meaning. There can still be warmth. There can still be joy. I\u2019ve learned that the holidays don\u2019t disappear when dementia enters your life. They change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-20866be7cd585abb0e7f0cfef8e4edf0\">Emma went on to discuss grief and honestly stated, \u201cIt\u2019s okay to grieve.\u201d While Bruce is still very much alive, the type of grieving she\u2019s talking about is grieving what once was. She explained that it\u2019s \u201cthe realization that things won\u2019t unfold the way they once did. It belongs to the absence of routines, conversations, or roles that were once so familiar you never imagined them ending.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-030a64c98e7015a53b55c7995397f3de\">For example, she shares the Bruce used to make pancakes on Christmas, but now, she\u2019s the one who will be making the pancakes. She explained, \u201cI find myself, harmlessly, cursing Bruce\u2019s name while wrestling with the holiday lights or taking on tasks that used to be his. Not because I\u2019m mad at him, never that, but because I miss the way he once led the holiday charge. Yes, he taught me well, but I\u2019m still allowed to feel annoyed that this is one more reminder of how things have changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c0f918e705b6187843a536cf6208bf64\">She ended the essay by sharing her new reality and how she has learned to cope with the holiday season. She wrote, \u201cSo you can grieve what the holidays used to be&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;make room for new traditions. That\u2019s how I push through. I hold the ache of what dementia has taken from us while we trim the tree<em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/em>the gratitude that we\u2019re still together celebrating. I hold the memories of Bruce as the man who once carried this season for our family,&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;I hold the reality of who he is now, with the same love.
