Later, the frail pup was given a name: Rhodey.

Learning Who Rhodey Really Was
Over the next few days, Rhodey revealed pieces of who he had been before the woods swallowed him up. He was shy, cautious, and easily overwhelmed—but beneath that fear was a gentle dog trying to understand the kindness suddenly surrounding him.

The vet estimated he was about a year old.
He weighed only 41 pounds—roughly half of what he should have weighed for his size.
He was anemic and heartworm positive, but far too weak to begin treatment.

Even so, Rhodey began showing small signs of trust. He tolerated a few new dog friends. He enjoyed slow walks with Kristy. He started to gain weight, little by little.
